Who Are We?
We are seven teachers with 83 combined years of teaching experience. We teach 120 students how to read, write, compute, think scientifically, and become good citizens. Combined, we have visited 44 countries around the world, speak 6 languages, and WE LOVE TO TEACH!

What We're Learning in . . .                                                                                                                                                                                                           Math
Important topics: maths facts to 20; double digit addition and subtraction; place value to 1,000; time; money to $1.00; reading, analyzing and creating charts and graphs; measurement in inches; simple fractions; names and attributes of 3-D shapes.

Literacy
Important topics: key ideas of grade-level text; comprehension of grade-level text; using text features like bold words and captions; grade level phonics (short and long vowels, digraphs and blends, bossy r); strategies for reading new words; communicating about reading through conversation, writing, and digital formats; conducting research; reading and writing poetry; writing narratives, opinions, and informational text; spelling grade-level appropriate words; using end punctuation and other punctuation like ellipses and commas

Social Studies
Key ideas: citizenship; communities and maps; Basalt history; saving and spending money on what we want and need; resolving conflicts

Science
Key ideas: force; habitats and how animals use their habitats; weather

Health
Key ideas: staying healthy; understanding childhood illnesses; dangers of tobacco; using household products safely; understanding and responding to bullying; communicating to prevent injury and ask for help

Field Trips:
Our classes will have three field trips for the year.
* Fall Trip: Rock Bottom Ranch
* Winter Trip: Snowshoe on the top of Aspen Mountain
* Spring Trip: Evening at Rock Bottom Ranch

Volunteering & Visitations:
* If you would like to volunteer in one of our classrooms, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
* If you volunteer three or more times in the classroom or on a field trip, the school asks that you be fingerprinted. Please stop by the office to get more information.
* If you want to visit your child's classroom, please contact your child's teacher ahead of time.
