Welcome Letter from the Principal
I hope the first month of school was a great success for you and your child. I want to thank you for your understanding and patience as the construction continues to be completed, we continue to learn how to best use our new drop off, pick up and parking lot area and our secure entry way continues to be built out. Once this is all completed, it will be a wonderful upgrade for our school community.
One of our main focuses this year is to improve our Dual Language program. We began this process last year with a Dual Language retreat with a core group of teachers. This BES team of teachers helped us outline our goals and plans for this school year that included an in-depth Spanish literacy training provided by the Center for Applied Learning from Washington DC for 20 of our teachers and upcoming professional development for all of our staff. We have also begun the process of redesigning of our Dual Language program model to ensure that we are using the most effective components in our program. We will be sharing more information with parents as the year continues so please stay tuned.
Each year Basalt Elementary School receives a School Performance report rating from the state of Colorado based on our 3rd and 4th grade PARCC assessment scores and a few other state expectations. This year our rating was at the Improvement level, a step down from the previous rating of being a Performance school. The report outlined that our greatest area of growth is in mathematics. As a school community, we are looking deeply at our student data in math and making some significant changes to our planning, instruction and professional development to ensure that all of our students show growth and success in mathematics this year and in upcoming years. Please watch for more information in your grade level newsletters and our monthly newsletter to see how you can help your child in the area of math this school year.
The Taste of Basalt, one of the major fundraisers for all of the Basalt schools is on Saturday, November 4th. Raffle tickets for the Taste of Basalt have been sent home with all students. Please know that all of the proceeds from raffle ticket sales goes directly to Basalt Elementary School. We use this funding to support the ACES program that all of our students experience as a Specials class and through field trips. Please support our school community by helping us sell raffle tickets this next month!
One of the key factors to a successful school is the partnership and voice of our parent community. Please join us for our next Parent Engagement Meeting that is planned for Wednesday, October 25th at 8:15am in our cafeteria. We need your help, support and voices to make BES successful this school year!
If you have any questions, concerns or new ideas, please call, email or drop by our office.
