The 2011 Governor's Distinguished Improvement awards are awarded to schools that exceed expectations on the 3 year performance framework's indicators related to academic growth and meet or exceed expectations on the indicator related to growth gaps. Commissioner Robert Hammond states in his letter to superintendents, "These schools demonstrate the highest levels of growth for not just some students but all student groups."
Congratulations to administrators and staff members at each of these schools for the hard work, dedication and commitment to students that this prestigious honor from the Colorado Department of Education represents.

Basalt Elementary School and PIE (Partners in Education) express their gratitude to the Ann Korologos Gallery for her generous donation of a bear-proof trash container for the front of the school. Having a conveniently located trash receptacle will have an enormous impact on beautifying our school campus and providing the BES community with a place to properly dispose of trash. Thanks to Ann Korologos' generous donation, Basalt Elementary can keep our school grounds free of trash.
