Welcome to BES!

Basalt Elementary School is located in the Roaring Fork Valley, between Glenwood Springs and Aspen, in the heart of downtown Basalt. There are approximately 580 students in preschool through 4th grade. At BES, our mission is to partner with our community, to inspire students to thrive by building relationships, achieving academic success, and providing enriching learning opportunities in both Spanish and English.  BES provides students with a two-way immersion dual language program.  Most recently at the end of the 23-24 school year, students at Basalt Elementary outperform their local valley peers in our state reading assessment (Dibels & Lectura) and read at or above the level of students in neighboring schools – while learning to become biliterate and bilingual. BES partners with BMS & BHS to continue offering dual language programming for students after they leave our school, and have the opportunity to obtain the Seal of Biliteracy when they graduate high school. In addition to dual language programming, BES offers students robust outdoor & experiential education opportunities including Skiing at Buttermilk & Snowmass, Snowshoeing at Aspen Mountain, Nature Walks at Rock Bottom Ranch, Colorado Extreme Hockey days, Art Days with Aspen Art Museum, The Art Base, Anderson Ranch, and more.   BES also believes in the importance of educating the whole child, offering a social-emotional curriculum for students in addition to rigorous academics.
