March Letter

Dear Parents,

March is here and we are on the countdown to Spring Break!

Our annual International Dinner Night is this week, Thursday, March 5th from 5:00-6:30pm. All families are encouraged to attend and bring a tasty family dish to share with other families. This night is also the night of our Annual Art Show and a special Folklorico dance presentation by some BES Teachers!!! Please mark your calendars and plan a tasty food to share with our entire school community.

This past month of “I Love to Read” month events were really fun to share with students. We are seeing more books being checked out at our school library in the mornings and a lot of students engaged in reading with each other, other students, family members and guests. If you were unable to attend the Gary Johnston presentation this past week, you can view the talk on YouTube at this link. Thank you for partnering with us to teach your child to LOVE reading!

Our teachers and students are also working hard in the area of Mathematics to ensure all of our students meeting grade level and above standards in Math. If you need additional ideas to work on math at home, consider playing cards or a fun board game, cook or bake together by following a recipe, and play or build with blocks and leggos. All of these activities will help support your child’s math learning goals. If you need additional ideas, call your child’s teacher.

We are thrilled to let you know that we wrote and received a $180,000 Connect for Success Grant from the Colorado Department of Education. This grant will support all of our educators in their pursuit of ensuring that students experience the highest quality of instruction during their time at Basalt Elementary School. On March 31st a team from the Colorado Department of Education will be at BES observing in classrooms, interviewing teachers and parents and facilitating focus groups to gather data about the practices in our school community. They will then use this information to help us determine our next steps in our improvement process for the next 2 school years. We are very excited about this additional support for our school!

We are beginning the planning process for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. You are welcome to share important information that will help us BESt place your child in the most effective learning environment for the 2020-2021 school year by coming into the school office and filling out the Student Placement form. We will use this information to support our placement process. Please note that we are not accepting teacher requests for individual student placement.

I wish you all a fun-filled spring break with your family.
